Divide the square footage of the area that you need to cover by 27;
this will give you the area in cubic yards. Next, the material will compact
approximately 33% after it is first installed, so if you multiply your
cubic yardage by 1.33 (33%), this will give you the amount of Kids Karpet® needed
to cover the area at a compacted 12" depth.
Ex. 5,000 square feet needs:
5,000 / 27 = 185.19 * 1.33 = 246.3
In the example above, 246 cubic yards of Kids Karpet® is needed.

- ASTM and CPSC require that you have a fall perimeter of at least
6 feet around the playground equipment, with the exception of swings
and slides. Swings should have a fall perimeter of at least two times
(2x) the height of the tallest point of the structure. Slides require
a fall perimeter equal to the height of the slide plus 4 feet, extending
to a minimum of 6 feet, needed in front of all slide exits.
- Excavate the area and remove any roots, stones, or vegetation. Install
geotextile fabric to the base of the area and fill in with 3" to 6" of
drain stone, such as pea gravel. This amount of drain stone will be
dependent on climate and amount of anticipated precipitation. Apply
another layer of the geotextile fabric to the top of the drain stone.
- Apply the recommended amount of Kids Karpet® on the top of the second
layer of geotextile fabric. Be sure to apply 3" to 5" of Kids Karpet® in
addition to your original 12" depth because the material compacts approximately
33% after only a few days of settling.
- Install retaining border, such as timbers, if necessary or desired.

No. Kids Karpet® is naturally resistant to flame. The product is stored
outside and contains internal as well as surface moisture content. Kids
Karpet® has undergone a series of testing performed by the SGS U.S. Testing
Company Inc. The test is for Surface Flammability of Carpets and Rugs,
16 CFR Part 1630 FF1-70 & Part 1631 FF2-70. This test states that the
specimen passes the test if the charred portion does not extend to within
1.0 inch of the hole in the flattening frame at any point. All specimens
of Kids Karpet® that were tested passed this criterion. |

- Kids Karpet® is made from all virgin wood, meaning that there are
no unnatural contaminants that could harm children within the material.
- Kids Karpet® contains small quantities of bark which means it is
mostly wood fiber, which makes the product last longer because it will
not decompose as quickly as regular bark mulch.
- Since it contains little bark, it is much cleaner and will not soil
the children's clothes and bodies.
- Kids Karpet® is ADA accessible, where many bark products are not.

Garick guarantees Kids Karpet® for 10 years on the performance of the
material regarding impact criteria, as long as it is installed properly.
This is guaranteed providing that the user replenishes the material periodically
to maintain a 12" depth. Regarding decomposition, after three to four
years is when you will notice some compaction and degradation of the
Kids Karpet®, approximately 2" to 3" inches, and this is also directly
due to the climactic conditions in your area. |
